According to Icelandic State Statistics, 79.5 per cent of all Icelanders had access to the internet by January 1999. Such a figure is beyond most other countries’ wildest dreams. In 1998 39.4 per cent of Icelanders were using the internet, and almost 60 per cent of them from home. By contrast, in 1998 only 22 per cent of the Danish homes were connected to the internet. And of course almost everyone has a mobile phone in Iceland.
