Midia Locativa…Celular…Sons…

“The HP project combines physical data with virtual information, a concept that’s known as augmented reality. As location-based technologies have improved and PDAs have become more powerful, various forms of augmented reality have been gaining traction. Nokia is working on a project, for instance, that will help people navigate new areas. The user simply points a cell-phone camera at a restaurant or office building, and, using GPS coordinates, software associates a hyperlink with the image. (See “Hyperlinking Reality via Phones.”) In the commercial world, some museums and tour companies–including one that takes people around San Francisco–use location-detecting gadgets to guide sightseers.”

Vejam matria do Network Performance.:

“The omnipresence of computers and mobile communications apparatus has led to digital technology increasingly becoming a part of our environment. Invisible wireless networks have altered our ways of communicating, working, learning and playing. They have even taken on an important role in the creation of our identity and our relationships with others. In the course of this development, interest in the apparatus has increasingly shifted from the technology itself to the role it plays in shaping our experience. The artists in this exhibition investigate the invisible world of sound waves and frequencies and electromagnetic fields. In all cases they touch on issues concerning the radiation that is ever-present, but imperceptible to our senses. They make use of technologies that are present around us, but invisible, and by playing with electromagnetic waves and different frequencies their works surprise us with an abundance of information and possibilities”.

Outros projetos so apontados no we make money not art a partir de trabalhos apresentados no workshop “som e tecnologias mveis”. Como exemplos temos os trabalhos de Atau Tanaka, Guillaume Valadon e Christophe Berger sobre localizao e navegao com celulares wi-fi: “an interface that seeks to fuse elements of proximal interaction, geographic localization and social navigation to allow groups of wifi-equipped phone users to intuitively find friends, network connectivity or new music. (…) Once this spontaneous private network is established, the two users compare playlists based on various musical criteria. A song of interest to the first user is then copied using the phone Wifi connectivity.”

“She then mapped the traces of these sound over a certain period of time and it turns out that although the device is static, the readings indicate movements over relatively large distances. In such context, a building seems to be a “mobile” entity. Which leads to questions such as what does the word “mobile” actually mean? Is the entire system actually floating?”
